Man airlifted to hospital after hitting semi

CALVIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was airlifted to the hospital after striking a semi-truck southeast of Cassopolis Thursday afternoon.

The wreck happened just before 2 p.m. on Cassopolis Road near Bullhand Street in Calvin Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Dustin Luse, 20, from Mishawaka, Ind. was headed north on Cassopolis Road when he crossed the centerline and hit a semi-truck driven by 40-year-old Dustin McLaughlin from Wyoming.

Luse was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital. His condition was not known Thursday night.

McLaughlin was not hurt.

It’s not yet known why Luse crossed the centerline.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
