Man killed in Hastings house fire

One person was killed in a house fire in Hastings. (June 2, 2015)

HASTINGS, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have identified the man who died in a house fire in Barry County Tuesday morning.

Police say Jeffrey Daniel Kelley, 48, died when a fire broke out at a home in the 2200 block of East State Road in Hastings around midnight.

Fire crews told 24 Hour News 8 a passerby called in the fire after seeing heavy smoke.

When crews arrived, the back of the home was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters found Kelley’s body when they went inside.

Family members said Kelley was the the only person inside the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
