Fire departments show support for vets along US-131

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Drivers may notice fire trucks on highway overpasses along US-131 as they head into work Tuesday morning.

Fire departments are showing their support for veterans of World War II and the Korean War who are taking part in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C., according to Grand Rapids police. The trucks have American flags hanging off the bridges.

According to a press release from the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight, this is their first flight for the 2015 flying season. Around 60 veterans are participating.

The veterans are traveling from Ferris State University in Big Rapids to the Gerald R. Ford International Airport where they will board a flight for Washington D.C.
