Norton Shores Police Department welcomes online shoppers

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WOOD)— A West Michigan police department is rolling out the welcome mat for online shoppers, in hopes of curbing crime.

As part of Operation Safe Exchange, Norton Shores police are encouraging community members to use the agency’s lobby or parking lot for Craigslist transactions and other exchanges, including child custody.

Other agencies previously launched similar programs, including the Lowell Police Department.

The NSPD’s lobby, which is under video surveillance, is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The police department has designated two parking spaces in its east lot for Operation Safe Exchange; the agency says the area is well-lit and equipped with security cameras.

The Norton Shores Police Department is located at 4814 S. Henry Street.
