GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who was 32 years old when he met a 14-year-old girl on the ‘Kik’ messenger application has admitted to convincing the West Michigan teen to send him sexually explicit videos of herself.
Michael James Bent, a man from Colorado, has pleaded guilty to the sexual exploitation of a child and could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.
According to documents filed in federal court, Bent began chatting with the child when in June of 2013.
In court records signed by Bent he’s accused of using “Kik messenger to communicate with [the victim], a 14-year-old child. During these chat conversations, Bent directed persuaded, induced, and enticed [the victim] to engage in sexually explicit conduct and to use [the victim’s iPhone to create images and video of that conduct.”
It’s then alleged that Bent had the victim send the images to him using ‘Kik,’ all the while knowing the victim was a minor.
Police executed a search warrant on Sept. 26, 2014 at Bent’s Colorado home and report finding 70 images of the victim stored on the device. Bent, records show, was arrested the same day and police report that he admitted to “exchanging pictures with [the victim] ‘a lot.'”
