DETROIT (AP) — Meijer Inc. is getting ready to open its second store in the city of Detroit.

Grand Rapids-based Meijer plans a ribbon-cutting Thursday on the city’s west side.

Company officials are expected to join local leaders at the event. Construction started last year on the store at the former Redford High School site.

The supercenter is the latest of 11 new stores that Meijer is opening throughout the Midwest this year.

The opening comes about two years after Meijer opened its first Detroit store at 8 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in the Gateway Marketplace.
