GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman accused of subletting her rental property to and then making off with people’s money was sentenced on Wednesday.
Amanda Streyle, who also goes by Amanda Straight, was sentenced to time served in the Kent County jail.
Streyle ran a kind of rental Ponzi scheme, renting a home for herself and then subletting rooms for big upfront payments. Those payments were used by Streyle to catch up on back rent and prevent her from being evicted.
Target 8 exposed her shady dealings last year when the eviction notices caught up with Streyle. She and the subletters who had paid her were kicked out of their Grand Rapids home for unpaid rent.
Streyle pleaded guilty on June 1 to misdemeanor larceny by conversion less than $1,000.
In addition to the time served in jail, Streyle was ordered to repay her victim.
She has several small claims lawsuits pending against her in district court as well as a pending bench warrant for failing to appear for court.
