A look inside the new Japanese Garden

The Richard and Helen DeVos Japanese Garden at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Parks. (Sept. 9, 2014)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) In 2011, it was simply a dream, to build a Japanese Garden in Grand Rapids. Now, 4 years later that dream has become a reality at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. The Richard and Helen DeVos Japanese Garden opens to members Thursday and to the public on Saturday.

The sprawling, eight-acre garden went into motion in 2011 when Meijer Gardens Fred Meijer mentioned he wanted to create a Japanese Garden. It was one of his last requests for the botanical garden and sculpture park.
