Race in Kent Co. Thursday to benefit local veterans

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — A race happening at a Kent County park Thursday will benefit local veterans.

The Stars & Stripes Dash 5K Run/Walk begins at 7 p.m. at Millennium Park in Walker.

All of the proceeds from the race go to Operation Injured Soldiers, a group that helps wounded veterans in their mental or physical rehabilitation.

Jena Wilmers, the organizer of the Stars & Stripes Dash, said Operation Injured Soldiers gets veterans together for fun activities that can help them settle back into life after serving their country.

“They also do it through activities they do fishing and hunting and sky diving and activities at no cost to the soldier and often times they can bring a loved one with them,” Wilmers said.

Race participants can sign up for $35.
