Substation problem caused power outage, power restored

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Power has been restored to the Rockford area, according to a spokesperson for Consumers Energy. Approximately 3,400 Consumers Energy customers south of Rockford lost power Saturday afternoon.

Power went out around 1:50 p.m. after an equipment failure at a substation near M-44 and Rogue River Road in Plainfield Township, according to Consumers.

Consumers said it would bring in a mobile substation to restore service to everyone. The company initially didn’t expect power to be back for all customers until around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Mercy Health Rockford Campus was closed due to the power outage Saturday. Power has also been restored to the campus as of 8:30 Sunday morning and they are back to business as normal.
