GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The DeVos Place Convention Center celebrated its 10 year anniversary with an open house on Saturday.

DeVos Place on Monroe Avenue NW opened its doors in downtown Grand Rapids 10 years ago. It hosts a dozen events each month — conventions, concerts, proms, and weddings — and brings tens of thousands of people to the city each year.

Saturday, DeVos Place celebrated 10 years with a free family-friendly event for the public. There was an indoor Ferris wheel, a petting zoo, a large sandbox and, of course, snacks.

DeVos Place says the event was a way to give back to the community.

“Thank you to the community,” DeVos Place Director Lynne Ike said. “We really need the support… With people coming to town, if we don’t have a welcoming downtown, and we don’t have people in restaurants that can take care of them, for hotels that have beds ready, we’re not going to have very good business. We’re not going to have the repeat customers that were accustomed to.”

DeVos Place says it is looking forward to another 10 years.
