ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — An Allegan-area man has entered in to a plea agreement in the death of his 3-month-old son.
Monday, Jonathan Colby pleaded no contest to manslaughter and first-degree child abuse in the death of his son Jase Colby.
In exchange for the no contest pleas, a murder charge against Colby will be dropped.
Emergency responders were called to the Allegan Township home where Jase Colby was living in December 2014. There, they found Jase’s mother performing CPR on the baby. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died. An autopsy determined the baby died of a head injury.
Jonathan Colby was arrested the same day his son died. Police say he admitted to hitting Jase in the head several times because the baby was crying. Colby said he was drunk and on drugs at the time.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 20.
