HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD/AP) — A pedestrian survived being hit by a freight train in Holland Township Monday afternoon.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. Monday on the train tracks south of James Street and north of the Wesco Gas Station on 14 W. Lakewood Boulevard.
Authorities say 52-year-old Robert Montgomery of Holland was either sitting or lying on the tracks when he was hit by a train hauling coal, the Associated Press reports.
A sheriff’s deputy on the scene couldn’t provide 24 Hour News 8 with many details about Montgomery’s condition, but said it was “good” considering the fact that a train was involved.
He was later listed in serious condition at an area hospital, according to the AP.
Montgomery had been walking along the tracks with the friend. He was struck after the friend left.
There are not any indications Montgomery was attempting to hurt himself, the deputy said. He told police he didn’t see or hear the train.
