KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD)– The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a house fire Saturday morning.

The fire started just before 1:50 a.m. in the 800 block of Woodward Avenue.

When public safety officers arrived, they saw flames and heavy smoke coming from the house, according to a news release.

Efforts to put out the fire from inside of the home were halted by a comprised house structure. Officers then started to extinguish the fire from the outside.

It took authorities several hours to put out the fire because of the old construction of the house and “lack of fire stops.”

The residence was vacant and no one was injured.

The fire remains under investigation.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 269.337.8994.
