Passenger freed after car hits U-Haul

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — A passenger had to be extricated from the car they were in after it collided with a U-Haul truck Friday night.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of 60th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue in Kentwood.

The Kentwood Police Department says a car heading north on Kalamazoo Avenue ran a red light and was struck by a U-Haul truck.

Authorities had to extricate the passenger from the car. The passenger is currently in critical condition.

The driver of the truck was also treated at the hospital for injuries.

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
