1 killed in crash north of Rockford

ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed and another injured in a crash north of Rockford on Sunday evening.

The crash happened on Summit Avenue NE north of 14 Mile Road in Algoma Township. Emergency responders on the scene told 24 Hour News 8 that a car crashed into a tree and then rolled.

A 42-year-old man from the Grand Rapids area was killed, according to a release from the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.

The female driver, also from the Grand Rapids area, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Her condition was not immediately known.

Neither of the victims’ names were immediately released.

A dog was also injured in the crash.

Authorities on the scene said they suspect alcohol may have been a factor.
