IONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Indiana man was hospitalized Sunday following a crash involving a car and a semi-truck just north of Ionia.
The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. on N. State Road near Apple Tree Drive in Ionia Township, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the 46-year-old Indiana man was headed south on State Road when he tried to pass another vehicle, steering his Toyota Prius into the northbound lanes and into the path of a semi-truck.
The sheriff’s office said the crash caused “extensive damage” to both the Prius and the semi-truck.
The driver of the Prius was taken to Sparrow Ionia Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 45-year-old California woman, was not hurt.
The sheriff’s office said neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash. The at-fault driver was cited for a traffic violation.
