Wakeboard competition at Meijer State Games

ALLENDALE, Mich. (WOOD) — The sixth annual Meijer State Games of Michigan provided a little preview of the August X Games competition with Sunday’s wakeboard competition.

Wakeboarders took to the water at Placid Wake Park in Allendale.

In the women’s open division, Shannon Sahinbas, 14, of Novi took first place. Her first competition was in the State Games two years ago.

In the men’s open division (19-29), Alex Ambs, 22, of Clark Lake placed first.

But it was 12-year-old Thomas Herman of Wayne, Ind. who stole the show and took the gold medal in the boys (10-14) division.
