EMMET COUNTY, Mich. (WOOD) When you think about heading to Northern Michigan for a getaway, you think of beautiful settings, outdoor recreation, relaxation, and wine tasting! The Bay View Wine Trail in Emmet County has fantastic wine.

The area’s strong agricultural roots lends itself to growing grapes. Many of the wineries are family-run businesses, like Petoskey Farms Vineyard & Winery and Walloon Lake Winery. Both locations have delicious wines served up with spectacular settings.

If you’re more of a craft beer person, the area is loaded with brand new breweries. Beards Brewery started the trend in Emmet County as the first brewery in the area when it oepened in August 2012. The craft beer scene has been growing since then, with great brews and ciders.

If you’re wondering why Northern Michigan is growing so fast when it comes to the wine industry, it’s because of the great micro-climate.  The air remains more moderate due to the breezes from Lake Michigan and the Little Traverse Bay. That proximity to the water, plus the terrain of the valleys and gorges, creates a micro-climate that’s really good for grape growing.
