Man dies after vehicle crashes into church

LAWTON, Mich. (WOOD) — A man died after crashing his vehicle into a Lawton church Friday morning.

The crash happened at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, located in the 63000 block of M-40 near the intersection of 31st Street and 64th Avenue.

The driver was identified as 73-year-old David Alan Martin from the Lawton area. Martin was taken to Bronson Lake View Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Church officials said they were told that Martin may have suffered from a medical condition.

Most of the damage from the crash happened on the classroom end of the building, so services were expected to go on as scheduled.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office at 269.657.3101.
