Alcohol, speed appear to be factors in fatal motorcycle crash

CONSTATINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was killed after he drove off the road and hit a tree early Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. on Featherstone Road near Constantine Road in Constantine Township, according to a St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Deputies say 33-year-old James Carlson, of Constantine, was driving a 2014 Harley Davidson eastbound on Featherstone Road when he failed to negotiate the curve. He drove off the road, crashing into two trees, the release said.

Carlson was not wearing a helmet and alcohol and speed are suspected to have contributed to the crash, according to deputies.

The crash remains under investigation.
