Man competent to stand trial for 3 murders

ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — A man accused of killing his son, his ex-girlfriend and her daughter and then setting their mobile home on fire has been found competent to stand trial.

Corey LaValley Sr. was found competent on July 2 in 57th District Court.

LaValley, 32, allegedly shot and killed his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend Deb Sheppard, their 10-year-old son Corey LaValley Jr. and Sheppard’s 12-year-old daughter Emma McComber on March 10. He then allegedly set their Dorr Township home on fire.

He faces three murder charges, a second-degree arson charge and a weapons charge.

He is expected back in court later this month for a preliminary exam.
