Plea deal for substitute who touched girls

John Dalton outside of court on March 18, 2015.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A substitute teacher accused of groping four 5th-grade girls at Kent City Elementary School has entered in to a plea deal.

Jon Dalton, 67, was initially charged with four counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under the age of 13 and was supposed to go to trial on Monday.

Instead, he pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree CSC with a person under 13 as part of a plea agreement. The other three charges were dropped under the deal.

Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 20. Sentencing guidelines will be considered as if there were four victims in the one count and not four separate acts.

Dalton was accused of touching the girls in their private areas over their clothes in the classroom on his only day at Kent City Elementary School in October 2014.
