GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Twenty-five years later, a man has been sentenced in the death of a young man who was killed while walking home from a Grand Rapids bar.
On Thursday, a judge sentenced Aurelias Marshall to life in prison for the beating death of 23-year-old Joel Battaglia during a 1990 robbery in the East Hills neighborhood.
Marshall maintained his innocence even in the final moments before he was led off to prison.
He was one of four suspects arrested in December with perjury in the murder investigation. He was later charged with open murder.
