OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A home southeast of Cedar Springs was destroyed in a fire Saturday.
The fire broke out just before noon at the house on Crawford Lake Trail in Oakfield Township. That’s in the area of Wabasis Avenue NE and 15 Mile Road.
Owners Craig and Lori Reppert said they were at a company picnic when they got a call from their neighbor that their home was on fire. By the time they got back, the house where they had lived for seven years was gone.
No one was hurt, but the Repperts say their family pet, a kitten, was killed in the fire.
Neighbors told firefighters the fire started after the house was struck by lightning.
Oakfield Fire Department Capt. Paul Decess said officials are still investigating what caused the blaze, but that lightning is “a good possibility.”
