Brief standoff after report of shots fired

VERGENNES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One man was arrested after a brief standoff with authoritative north of Lowell on Wednesday.

Around 5 p.m., officers from the Kent County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police responded to a domestic call in the area of 3 Mile Road and Fallasburg Park Drive NE in Vergennes Township. A woman at the residence called 911, saying shots had been fired. She left the home and wasn’t hurt.

Authorities made contact with a man in the home and eventually talked him into surrendering his weapon and coming out of the house without incident. He was taken into police custody.

Authorities didn’t immediately know whether the shots were fired inside or outside the home. They are still investigating.

The man didn’t fire at the woman who called 911 and he never shot at police.

It’s not yet clear what charges, if any, the man may face.
