BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a 16-year-old driver was distracted by her cellphone when she crashed into a tree on Tuesday.
It happened around 11 p.m. on Tamarack Road near Lake Road in Belvidere Township, according to a Montcalm County Sherriff’s Department news release.
Deputies say the teen was driving eastbound on Tamarack Road when she ran the stop sign at Lake Road and continued east onto the gravel portion of the road.
The teen then veered off the road, over corrected and lost control.
Her vehicle traveled sideways through a field and the front yard of a nearby home, striking a tree, the release said.
It appears the teen was distracted by her cellphone and speed is also believed to be a factor in the crash.
The driver was not injured, but was cited for failure to maintain control of her vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation.
