Assault reported on WMU’s Asylum Lake property

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Officials at Western Michigan University are asking people to use extreme caution after a woman reported she was assaulted on the university’s Asylum Lake property Wednesday evening.

According to Western Michigan University’s website, the victim was walking her dog when a man knocked her to the ground and assaulted her at the preserve, near the intersection of Parkview Avenue and Drake Road.

The suspect is described as a 20-28 year old man with brown hair, between 5 foot 8 inches to 5 foot 11 inches tall.  He was wearing a white t-shirt and red basketball shorts.

Officers from the University’s Office of Public Safety are investigating the assault and trying to gather a more complete description of the suspect.

People in the community are being urged to avoid walking along on the 274-acre natural preserve or use extreme caution if they do.
