GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Just about one month until most students head back to school and is an opportunity to enroll in a program that can get your preschooler ready for kindergarten.

The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is through the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids. The program helps children who are deemed educationally at risk to get free preschool Monday through Thursday. It’s available to children who are four or five years old and scheduled to start kindergarten the next year.

The program helps children prepare for kindergarten by teaching them basics such as colors and name recognition, science, art, and how to play together. The GSRP has a success rate of 83% to 94% in getting children ready for kindergarten.

You don’t have to be a YMCA member to enroll. For registration details, give them a call at (616) 855-9622 or check out their website.
