Attendance increased at 2015 Meijer LPGA Classic

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The second annual Meijer LPGA Classic saw an increase in attendance with nearly 50,000 spectators participating in the weeklong events.

While attendance at the four-day tournament was similar to last year, participation in the various community events rose more than 50 percent, according to a Meijer LPGA news release.

Attendance at the Meijer LPGA Classic Junior Clinic saw threefold increase alone, the release said.

The tournament raised $750,000 for the Meijer Simply Give program, which helps to fund around 200 Midwest food pantries — among which the money will be divided.

The 2015 Meijer LPGA Classic named Lexi Thompson as the champion after scoring a 65.
