Motorcyclist critical injured after hitting fallen tree

PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist is in critical condition after hitting a tree that fallen across the road.

It happened around 8:15 p.m. in the 22000 block of Pine Lake Road in Pennfield Township, north of Battle Creek.

Deputies say the motorcyclist, a 22-year-old Battle Creek man, was heading southbound on Pine Lake Road with two friends, who were also on motorcycles. As they came around a curve in the road they saw a tree covering both lanes.

The victim was thrown from his motorcycle as he tried to avoid striking the tree. Although he was wearing a helmet, he suffered severe head injuries, according to a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The man was air lifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo by Air Care.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the accident, the release said.
