1 killed in rollover crash south of Holland

LAKETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Florida woman was killed in a rollover crash in northwestern Allegan County on Monday.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of 138th Avenue and 64th Street in Laketown Township, between Holland and Saugatuck, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told the sheriff’s office that the driver of an eastbound Volkswagen Beetle failed to stop at the intersection and drove into the path of a northbound pickup truck, causing a crash.

The Beetle was shoved into the ditch at the northeast corner of the intersection. It rolled over, leaving both people inside suspended upside down.

Authorities say the passenger from the Beetle, 69-year-old Nancy Grey Russell of Titusville, Fla., was pulled from the vehicle, but died at the scene.

The driver, 72-year-old Hermina Overway of Holland, was first taken to Holland Hospital with serious injuries and then transferred to a Grand Rapids hospital.

The driver and passenger in the pickup — two Saugatuck men — sustained only minor injuries.

Both Russell and Overway were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. The crash remains under investigation.
