GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD)—Two fresh faces will soon grace the anchor desk as WOOD TV8 looks to expand its successful morning newscast.
The show will begin one hour earlier, airing from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
“Mornings are an increasingly important time period as people get up earlier. Our team is focused on covering breaking and developing news and weather while preparing West Michigan viewers for their weekend ahead,” said WOOD TV8 News Director Dan Boers.
Weekend morning viewers are already familiar with McAboy, who reported for the show for two years. She was also a fill-in anchor for 24 Hour News 8 Weekend Daybreak.
“Over the past couple of years, West Michigan has become home for me. I’m thrilled to take on the greater role of weekend co-anchor and deliver engaging and important news stories to the community,” McAboy said.
Dean also brings experience to the anchor desk. He previously anchored the morning newscast for 9&10 News in Cadillac for two years before joining WOOD TV8 in June 2015.
“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity. I look forward to connecting with the viewers in West Michigan to make sure they know what’s happening to start their day,” Dean said.
The newly expanded 24 Hour News 8 Weekend Daybreak will launch during ArtPrize at the Grand Rapids Art Museum Studio in downtown Grand Rapids.
