GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The rain that fell in Grand Rapids on Saturday did not keep the crowds away from ArtPrize and artists were taking advantage of the crowds trying to secure their spot in the Final 20.
Voting for round one of ArtPrize Seven ends at 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
“Time & Again Grand Rapids” and The Heart are both instillation pieces and Rolling Down and Seasons are both 3-D pieces.
“It’s been kind of surprising we see people looking at the pieces and they will take their phones out right away or they will walk by and say I voted for you. It’s been pretty amazing,” said Midge Bolt, one of “Time & Again Grand Rapids” artists.
All the artists are hoping when voting comes to a Saturday night they make the cut for the Final 20.
“That would be such an unexpected gift just a phenomenal thing to affirm what we are doing,” Bolt said.
Each artist is doing what they can to nab a few extra votes.
“We are out there handing our cards to the people that most of them that stop and look, we’re just trying to show them that we have information for them,” said Doreen Gunnink, the other artist for “Time & Again Grand Rapids.”.
“We’re definitely trying to stay around here and interact with people and answer questions and promote the piece,” Nicholas Kroeze ‘Rolling Down’ artist said.
Even if they don’t make the Final 20 the artists say they are still grateful to be a part of ArtPrize Seven.
“Without ArtPrize I would have no reason to build these big pieces and little is no fun,” Robin Protz, creator of Seasons said.
The Final 20 will be announced Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. 24 Hour News 8 will broadcast the event live.
