KALAMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD/AP) — A pet cat that was found with a crossbow bolt through his chest in a rural part of Eaton County is recovering after surgery.

The Capital Area Humane Society says veterinarians removed the arrow Monday. According to a Tuesday post on the organization’s Facebook page, the cat named Kitty was in serious but stable condition and being treated for pain. He “is doing as well as can be expected,” the post said.

The cat has lung damage from the arrow. He was found Monday beneath a deck in Kalamo Township in Eaton County.

The type of arrow found in the cat is used for target practice, the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department said in a Monday release. The cat’s owner had last seen the animal Saturday.

The sheriff’s department is seeking tips about the shooting.

The Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 517.543.3512.

People wishing to help can also donate to the Humane Society’s Special Care and Cruelty Fund.
