GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Restaurant Week Grand Rapids on Wednesday presented its annual donation to provide scholarships for local culinary students.
Restaurant Week GR donated $18,217 to the Grand Rapids Community College Secchia Institute for Culinary Education Student Scholarship Fund.
Also Wednesday, The five recipients of $1,000 scholarships to the Secchia Institute were announced: Jessica Bloos, Kara Faasen, Katherine McCann, Kyle Pellegrino and Kaylee Mulder.
“I’m feeling very blessed,” Faasen, who has won the scholarship for two consecutive years, said. “It’s a great opportunity. It gives me chances to take more classes — and of course keep up the good grades.”
The 12-day Restaurant Week GR took place this year from Aug. 12 through Aug. 23. One dollar from each meal collected by the 68 participating restaurants went toward the scholarship.
The scholarship endowment fund now totals some $110,906 after donations from Restaurant Week starting in 2010, according to Restaurant Week.
