ARLINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Van Buren County sheriff’s deputies are investigating after a man crashed his pickup truck into a pond east of Bangor on Saturday night.

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on M-43 between 52nd and 54th streets in Arlington Township, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.

When emergency responders got to the scene, they found a Ford F-250 partially submerged in the pond and a man laying on the ground near the water. He appeared to be drunk, authorities said.

The man, a 53-year-old from the Bangor area, was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and possible hypothermia.

The sheriff’s department says say the water temperature was nearly 35 degrees at the time.

Deputies are still investigating, but they say alcohol appears to have played a role.

The name of the 53-year-old is being withheld as a charge of operating while intoxicated may be pending. He had not been arrested as of Sunday.
