GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thousands of runners participated in the 12th annual Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon on Sunday morning.
Brendan Molony, 23, of Kalamazoo was the first to finish the 26.2-mile marathon, with a time of 2:31:12. The Aquinas College alumnus also won the race last year.
The first woman to finish was 22-year-old Angela Swain of Evanston, Ill. She finished with a time of 2:57.52.
Jon Gries, 29, of East Lansing won the Foster Swift Half Marathon with a time of 1:09:50. The first woman finisher in the half marathon was 23-year-old Nicole Michmerhuizen of Ann Arbor with a time of 1:20:05.
The marathon kicked off at 8 a.m. from Winter Avenue near the downtown YMCA. Runners then headed west to go along the Grand River and then returned downtown to cross the finish line.
