2 kids injured in rollover crash; woman arrested for OWI

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 23-year-old woman was arrested for drinking and driving after police say she crashed a van with two young children inside.

According to police, the woman from the Decatur area was driving eastbound on CR 384 just west of 46 1/2 Street in Columbia Township when she lost control of a Dodge Grand Caravan around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. The van rolled over and crashed into trees.

When deputies arrived they found the woman, along with two small children, ages 3 and 6, who were not buckled.

Deputies reported that the driver smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking. She reportedly had a BAC of .12.

The woman was arrested for OWI, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with two children in the vehicle and operating a vehicle with no driver’s license. She is being held at the Van Buren County Jail. Her name has not been released pending arraignment.

The two children were hospitalized with minor injuries.
