Consumers Energy: 2,000 lose power in Lyons/Muir

LYONS, Mich. (WOOD) — Around 2,000 Consumers Energy customers lost power in the area of Lyons and Muir Wednesday, the company said.

Power in the two villages east of Ionia went out around 5:20 p.m. Restoration was originally estimated for 8:45 p.m., but then pushed back to 9:30 p.m. and then 10:45 p.m., according to the company’s interactive power outage map.

The outage happened after a power pole in the area of Staley and James roads, south of Lyons, was damaged.

Consumers spokesman Brian Wheeler told 24 Hour News 8 that a cross-arm on the power pole was burned off. It wasn’t immediately clear how, though Wheeler suggested lightning may have been the cause.
