KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was arrested and police are looking for a second suspect after a shotgun was fired at officers in Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were called to the 1300 block of N. Burdick Street on a report of a man with a shotgun around 12:15 a.m. Thursday. Kalamazoo Public Safety had recently responded to the area on several occasions for reports of gunshots, including an incident where several shots were fired into a home.
As officers were responding, the caller reported that the suspect began “chambering a round” in the shotgun.
Upon arriving on scene, the officers attempted to talk with a group of people arguing in front of a home. Two of the people immediately took off on foot.
During the chase, one of the suspects fired off a round from the shotgun.
Officers were able to tackle one of the suspects and found ammunition underneath him, as well as a pistol grip shotgun lying on the ground nearby.
The 25-year-old Kalamazoo man was arrested on several charges including resisting and obstructing arrest, felony firearm and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. He is being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail. Police say an additional charge of reckless discharge of a firearm will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office.
A K-9 unit was brought in to track the second suspect. The track lead to the 500 block of Lulu Street where the scent was lost.
The suspect is described as a 5’8″ to 5’10” black man who was wearing a white shirt, white baseball cap, blue jeans and red shoes. His age was unknown.
