KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD)— Kalamazoo public safety officers are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a man connected to a drug bust that injured an officer.

Officials issued a felony arrest warrant Thursday for Deon Jurel Burnett.

Investigators believe he was one of two drug dealers who tried to escape officers on Oct. 7.

Authorities believe Burnett was driving the getaway vehicle, which both men abandoned as it was still moving.

His passenger assaulted an officer before he was arrested, sending the officer to the hospital with possible broken bones.

Police said they recovered a large amount of suspected crack cocaine thrown by the passenger as he was running.

However, officers could not catch up to the driver.

Investigators said Burnett has been arrested by Kalamazoo public safety officers 25 times since 2004, and there are three outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Detectives said Burnett’s lengthy criminal record includes convictions on resisting and obstructing an officer, causing injury and delivering and manufacturing a controlled substance.

Anyone with information regarding Burnett’s whereabouts is asked to call the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 337-8994, the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team at (269) 337-8880, or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.
