BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — After a man’s body was pulled from a southwestern Ionia County lake on Saturday, authorities are working to determine how he died.
The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to Morrison Lake in Boston Township, north of the village of Clarksville, around 2:50 p.m. Saturday after a report of dead person in the water. When deputies arrived, two neighbors showed them where they had removed a man’s body from the north end of the lake.
That man was identified as Bernie Sterken, 81, the sheriff’s office said Sunday.
Authorities say Sterken, who was wearing waders, had been seen working to remove his dock from the lake about half an hour before his body was discovered.
Autopsy results are expected to reveal whether Sterken slipped and drowned or if a medical condition caused his death. It’s not yet known when those results will be available.
A release from the sheriff’s office did not mention any suspicious of foul play.
