Amtrak train hits vacant vehicle in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was cited after her vehicle was struck by a train after she crashed it onto the tracks.

It happened around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday. Authorities say the driver of the vehicle was driving on East Michigan Avenue near Leenhouts Street in Kalamazoo when she misjudged the road, lost control and crashed on the tracks. The vehicle was stuck on the tracks when the driver and her two passengers heard a train coming. They were able to make it away safely before the train slammed into the vehicle.

The Amtrak train had 64 on-board, including five crew members, however nobody was hurt.

The driver of the vehicle, Amanda Davis, was cited for a moving violation.
