UNION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the driver who hit and killed a Central Michigan University student.

It happened just after midnight Sunday on Crawford Road between Billabrail and Concourse Streets in Union Township.

Michigan State Police say Ryan Tsatsos, 17, of Macomb was walking toward campus with friends on Crawford Road when he was struck by a vehicle heading northbound. The CMU freshman died at the scene.

Police said that several hours later, they found a friend that had been walking with Tsatsos and was injured in the crash. She left the scene before police and EMTs arrived, and refused medical treatment when authorities located her. She told police that Tsatsos pushed her out of the way of the vehicle.

Tsatsos’ friends described the vehicle as an older, dark-colored vehicle with four doors. Police say the vehicle should have damage on the passenger-side of the front.

Troopers are reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses for clues related to the case.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800.422.JAIL or the MSP Mount Pleasant Post at 989.773.5951 or the anonymous tip line at 877.616.4677.
