GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A warrant has been issued for a suspect in connection to the murder of a woman in Grand Rapids Friday morning.
An open murder warrant has been issued for Jermaine Cooper, 38, in the death of Melissa Moore.
Moore, 31, was shot and killed near Knapp Street and Truxton Drive NE on Friday morning. Acquaintances have said that Cooper was her boyfriend.
Friday night, police surrounded an apartment complex on Heron Court NE and were heard calling for Cooper, but after an hours-long standoff he was not found in the building.
Cooper has an extensive criminal history involving several drug and theft-related cases that date back to 1997. He has no violent convictions in his past, Michigan State Police records show.
All told he has 21 convictions on his record and four other arrests that show no resolution.
Loved ones of Moore started trying to contact Cooper on Facebook the day the homicide occurred.
The day after the shooting, the victim’s sister wrote “I thought u were my brother….” on Cooper’s Facebook timeline.
