GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The second annual Veterans Day commemoration took place Wednesday at Grand Rapids Community College.
The event began at 10:45 a.m. with the tree-lighting ceremony and the planting of 100 flags to honor alumnus and Navy veteran Michael Cesternino who passed away this summer.
An open house took place after the commemoration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center’s multipurpose room.
Members of Innovation Central High School’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps were invited to attend the commemoration as special guests.
GRCC said that they were recently awarded the Military Friendly Schools designation from Victory Media and have been on the list of Military Friendly Schools since 2009.
