Upton reacts to changes in Congress

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After the surprise resignation and somewhat uneven attempt to replace the Speaker of the U.S. House, things have quieted down.

With lawmakers spending the week back in their districts, 24 Hour News 8 spoke to senior member of the House Rep. Fred Upton about those changes.

Upton has been in Congress since 1987 and is chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the most powerful on the hill.

As a close friend and confidant of former Speaker of the House John Boehner and quite familiar with the new Speaker Paul Ryan, Upton spoke to 24 Hour News 8 about Ryan’s approach to leadership.

“Paul Ryan, the new speaker, said we would start with a clean slate. That’s good. We have got to work together,” Upton told 24 Hour News 8.
