LANSING (WOOD) — A new report out by the nonprofit group Mission Readiness shows 71 percent of young adults are not eligible for military service.
Mission Readiness states many young adults can’t enlist due to a lack of education, obesity and criminal records.
WLNS-TV reported two retired major generals spoke to children at the Educational Child Care Center in Lansing Tuesday about the importance of education.
Mission Readiness is made up of hundreds of retired military leaders working to raise awareness about the large number of young adults who don’t qualify for service.
The report shows nearly a quarter of Michigan students fail to graduate high school on time.
Among those who do graduate, 21 percent score too low on the military entrance exam.
The statistics have retired military leaders concerned about the future, pushing for better early education, keeping children active and focused on the future.
