NEW YORK (WOOD) A woman who graces the stage in New York City calls West Michigan her home.

Maria Kowroski grew up in Grand Rapids and moved to New York at the age of 16 to attend the School of American Ballet. She is now a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet.

Kowroski has family in Grand Rapids and still comes back from time to time. She says growing up in West Michigan has made her more humble and gave her a great childhood. She is now looking forward to the birth of her first child, due in December.
